Overgrown beds have a way of sneaking up on you. What starts as a few weeds and some scraggly bushes turns into a full wall of tangled growth that makes the whole front of your house look neglected - even if everything else is in great shape. That's exactly what we were dealing with here in Trenton.
We started by clearing out all the overgrowth. Beds around every side of the house had gotten out of hand - dead clumps of ornamental grass, sprawling shrubs pressing up against the brick, weeds taking over where actual plants were supposed to be. We pulled it all back, trimmed the bushes down to a clean shape, and cleared the beds out so there was actually something worth working with.
Once the cleanup was done, we topped everything off with fresh black mulch. Black mulch does a couple things really well - it gives the beds a sharp, finished look that makes the brick pop, and it helps hold moisture and keep weeds from coming right back. We ran it along the front, both sides, and around the walkway beds to tie the whole yard together.
The difference between before and after on a job like this is hard to overstate. A good landscape clean up doesn't just make things look better - it makes the whole property look intentional and cared for. That matters whether you're staying put or thinking about selling down the road.
