This Friendship property had a solid retaining wall already in place - but the planting bed sitting on top of it was bare and the whole front area felt flat. No color, no depth, no presence. That's exactly the kind of yard that gets overlooked, and it shouldn't.
We planted 20 hydrangeas along the top of the retaining wall, laid weed barrier, and topped everything off with fresh dark mulch. That black mulch makes a big difference - it gives the beds a clean, finished look and lets the plants stand out without competing with a bunch of visual noise. The hydrangeas are a great long-term pick here. They'll fill in nicely and put on a real show when they bloom.
Then we wired in the retaining wall lights. This is where it all comes together. During the day, the beds look sharp and well-kept. At night, those lights cast a warm glow across the driveway and add a layer of polish that most front yards just don't have. It's the kind of detail that makes you actually notice a home - whether you're pulling in at the end of the day or driving past.
Good landscape design isn't just about plants. It's about how all the pieces work together - the structure, the planting, and the lighting. When you get all three right, the result holds up around the clock. That's what we were going for here, and that's what we delivered.
Curb appeal has real value, and it doesn't have to be complicated. A well-designed planting bed with the right lighting can completely change how a home feels from the street - and how it feels to come home every day.
